Day by Day Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival / Dazu Grottoes / Hot Pot (-/ L/ D)
Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to the hotel. After a short rest, you will be picked up and transferred to go to visit the Dazu Grottoes in Dazu County, 167 kilometers from Chongqing, which enjoys the reputation of "the county of rock carving". Dazu Grottoes are of the highest artistic attainment and demonstrate the most exquisite skills with more than 5,000 statues and over 100, 000 Chinese characters of inscriptions and epigraphs, dating as far back as the Tang dynasty. You will firstly visit the Baodingshan Grotto, 15 kilometers from the northeast of Dazu County, which is the best preserved one with 13 groups of stone carving figures, totaling nearly 10 thousand cliffside figures. Then head for the carvings of Beishan, situated just over a mile north of Dazu. It was originally a military camp whose carvings were commissioned by the general in AD 892. In the afternoon, you will be driven back to Chongqing. "Beautiful night piece, delicious hot pot and elegant lady" are three symbols of Chongqing. This evening you will enjoy the night piece and taste authentic Hot Pot by yourself.
Day 2: Zigong Dinosaur Museum / Zigong Salt Museum (B/ L/ D)
This morning you will be driven to the Dinosaur Museum in Zigong City, which is 170km southwest of Chongqing. The Dinosaur Museum is the first specialized dinosaur museum open in Asia and enjoys the same excellent reputation as the American National and Canadian Dinosaur Parks. It sits on top of a large concentration of dinosaur fossils — both in terms of quantity but also of diversity. In addition, you can go down into an underground room to touch the fossils of ancient life and see the circumstances of the layers and the ores. Followed by Zigong Salt Museum which was built in 1736 as the Xiqin Guildhall, a meeting place for salt merchants from Shaanxi province. It features elaborate flying eaves, and a gilded, wood-carved interior based around a large galleried atrium, where plays were once performed. Afterwards, you will be driven back to your hotel.
Day 3: People's Congress Hall / Chongqing Zoo / Eling Park / Hongyan Village / Departure (B/ L/ -)
After breakfast, you will enjoy your city tour in Chongqing from the People's Congress Hall, which was built in 1954 as a conference hall to commemorate Chongqing's important wartime role. It is inspired by Beijing's Temple of Heaven with three tiers of red-pillared eaves beneath a blue canopied roof. Then move on to the Chongqing Zoo, located in the western suburbs of Chongqing. There are more than 230 kinds of rare wild animals on display in the zoo and the giant pandas are always the focus among all the residents in the zoo. Then head for the Eling Park (Goose Neck Park) where offers a grand view of both the city and the rolling Yangtze River. At last, you will proceed to Hongyan Village, 3 mileswest of Chongqing. The group of whitewashed buildings was the base of the Nationalist-Communist "United Front" governmeng during World War II, but now houses a collection of sparsely-captioned wartime photographs with the hilly parkland surrounding the site. After your trip, you will be transferred to the Chongqing airport for your onward flight to the next destination.
