Day 1: Wuxi (-/ L/ -)
With a history of more than 3,000 years, is famous for the many private gardens or parks built by learned scholars and rich people in the past. Today, you will have a chance to visit this beautiful city. In the morning you will visit Turtle Head Park-a perfect place to view the beautiful scenery of Lake Tai. The shape of the park is like the head of a turtle, so it got the name. Then visit Lake Tai by boat.
In the afternoon you will take a stroll through Liyuan Garden, which borders water on three sides with views of rolling green hills in the distance. Later visit Lingshan Buddha Statue, which a bronze Sakyamuni is standing Buddha outdoor, weighing over 700 tons. Built in the end of 1996, it is one of the largest Buddha statues in China. Finally you will go to Huishan Clay Figure Workshop to see the making process. It is said that Huishan clay figurines have a history of over 1,000 years, originating in the Northern and Southern Dynasties Period (386-581). The little clay figures are not only very cute and colorful, but also full of cultural connotations in them. The black and sticky local soil has been used to make clay figurines.
