Day by Day Itinerary:
Day 1: Lhasa / Yamdrok-Tso Lake / Shigatse (300Km) (-/ -/ -)
Drive to Yamdrok-Tso Lake in the morning. On the way the coach will pass the Gangbala Mountain. Yamdrok-Tso Lake is one of the three sacred lakes in Tibet. It is also the highest fresh water lake in the world. Yamdrok-Tso means upper pastureland and "co" mans Lake in Tibetan. The surface of the lake is 4,441 meters high above sea level, and the size of the lake covers 800 square kilometers with a lake line of almost 1,000 kilometers. The Yamdrok-Tso Lake is blue and clear like a sapphire. The lake water tastes sweet, you can drink it. Then continue to drive to Shigatse via Zhongni Road. Stay overnight in Shigatse.
Day 2: Shigatse / Tingri (250KM) (-/ -/ -)
You will appreciate famous attractions in Shigatse in the morning. First destination is Tashilhunpo Monastery. Experiencing five centuries, it still maintains the magnificent vigor. Tashilhunpo Monastery (meaning auspicious) is one of the Six Big Monasteries of Gelugpa (or Yellow Hat Sect) in China and the biggest Tibetan Gelugpa Buddhism monastery in back Tibet area. Tashilhunpo is the seat of the Panchen Lama since the Fourth Panchen Lama took charge in the monastery. One can find the biggest statue of a sitting Maitreya Buddha inside the chapel. The statue stands 26.2 meters (86 ft) high and is decorated with gold, copper, pearl, amber, coral, diamond and other precious stones. After visiting the Stupa-tomb of the Tenth Panchen Lama, you will go to the Shigatse market. You can also visit the Tibetan family.
In the afternoon you will drive to Tingri and stay overnight there (245km).
Day 3: Tingri / Everest Base Camp (100 KM) (-/ -/ -)
Head for Everest Natural Reserve in the morning. Visit Rongbuk Monastery, which is situated at the end of Rongbuk Glacier on the north slope of Everest. Rongbuk Monastery was built by a local lama in about 1899. It is the highest monastery in the world, with an elevation of about 5,200 meters, almost the same height as the base camp of Mt. Everest. Although small, the Rongbuk Monastery has great significance for the pilgrims. It is the best place for watching and taking photos of Mt. Everest. Set off from here to Everest Base Camp. It will take you 2 hours by jeep and 15 minutes on foot. The best time to appreciate the amazing scenery of Mt. Everest is early morning. You will cross over the Jiawula Mount (5,200m). Stay overnight in Rongbuk Monastery.
Day 4: Mt. Qomolangma (Everest) / Shigatse(100 KM) (-/ -/ -)
In the morning you will see the sunrise on the Mount Everest. You can also see the other peaks such as Zhuoaoyou Peak (8,201m), Luozi Peak (8,516m) and Makalu Peak (8,516m). Mt. Shisha Pangma is the only mountain with the height of more than 8,000m completely in China.
Then head for Sakya Temple. In 1073, Kun Gongjor Gyibo, founder of the Sakya Sect, built a white palace on the gray clay hill on the northern bank of the Chun Qu River, and named it Sakya (meaning "gray clay"), which became the ancestral monastery of the Sakya Sect. The Sakya Monastery is proclaimed as the "Second Dunhuang," and boasts many classical books, relics, and rich and preciousmural paintings, the finest collection of remaining Tibetan religious relics.
Finally you will arrive and stay overnight in Shigetse. On the way you will see the splendid scenery of Yaluzangbu River.
Day 5: Shigatse / Lhasa (300KM) (-/ -/ -)
In the morning, you will visit Shigatse by yourself. After lunch, drive back to Lhasa.
