Today you will experience the special atmosphere of Buddhism from visiting the Jietai Temple and Tanze Temple. After breakfast, you will be picked up to JieTai Temple which is located at the foot of the Maan Mountain (Saddle Mountain), 35km western suburb of Beijing. It was built in 622 AD of the Tang Dynasty with a history of 1300 years. Inside the main hall of the temple, you can see one of the three largest ordination altar (jietai) in China, which is a three-story wooden altar with steps linking its upper and lower sections.
Then you will move to Tanzhe Temple (Temple of Poll and Zhe Tree), situated in the Western Hills, a mountainous area in western Beijing and about 8km from Jietai Temple. Built in the Jin Dynasty (265–420), it is around 1,600 years and also one of the oldest temples in Beijing. Tanze Temple has been popularly known as the Poll and Zhe Tree Temple because of the Dragon Poll at its rear and the Zhe trees (Cudrania trees) on the hill. Nowadays, there are different pagoda groups from various historical periods such as the Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasty. Legend has it that the two "Emperor trees" by the Hall of Three Sages were planted during the Liao Dynasty about 1,000 years ago.
