| The Shanghai YMCA Hotel was founded in 1900, with the purpose of improving people with a balanced development in body, mind, and spirit, and of building a perfect society. They include social work course and social sport course offered by the Shanghai YMCA Advanced Vocational Training College, the professional training for laid-off workers to find new jobs, English, painting and computer courses for teenagers, fitness centres for young people, "the Paradise for the Aged" - tea house for the elderly, various kinds of service in community service centers, rehabilitation and education for the disabled children and the training for volunteers. The annual attendance at the programmes has come up to 300,000.
