Chongqing (Chinese: 重庆; pinyin: Chóng Qìng) is the largest and most popular of China's four provincial-level municipalities. It is also the only four provincial-level municipality in the less densely-populated western half of China.

Located on the edge of the Yungui Plateau, Chongqing is intersected by the Jialing River and the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. The city is very hilly, being known as the "mountain city" and is the only major metropolitan area in China without a significant numbers of bicycles. Chongqing is home to Asia's largest aluminum plant, South West Aluminium. The city is also the biggest inland river port in western China.

Chongqing attracts a large number of visitors from home and abroad for its cultural heritage and tourist attractions. You will find plenty of war relics in Chongqing. One unusual place is the former site of the provisional government of the Republic of Korea. Another spot linking with history is the former barracks of the French Marine forces which has been turned into a chic bar, coffee shop and restaurant strip and is well and alive today. The Dazu Grottoes in Chongqing is renowned for its exquisite and distinguished cliffside carvings, which are the only ones that were implemented according to an overall design among over 100 grottoes in China. Besides, the Three Gorges starts from Chongqing and it is the starting point for the Yangtze River Cruise.
