 Kashgar(Chinese: 喀什；pinyin: kāshí), is the largest oasis city in Chinese Central Asia, located to west of the Taklamakan Desert, at the foot of the Tian Shan mountain range in the far west of Xinjiang. As the meeting point of the northern and southern Silk Roads and the gateway to the West, it is a place of great significance with a history of more than 2,000 years. Kashgar has a population of 300,000 and 90 per cent of its population are Uygur. Local Highlights in kashgar are local songs and dance ,crafts, roast lamb, shishi-kebab, and baled fish. |
