Bayi Square
|
Bayi Square, reputed as the window of Nanchang, was built to commemorate the Nanchang Uprising. |
Bayi Square (Chinese: 八一广场; pinyin: Bāyī Guǎngchǎng) in Nangchang City of Jiangxi Province was built during August 1, 1977 to January 8, 1979 to commemorate the Nanchang Uprising. It has always been the second largest square in China, after Tiananmen Square in Beijing when it finished its reconstruction.
Bayi Square is reputed as the window of Nanchang, because there are main roads leading to the urban city in the four sides. No matter where you come from, if you want to go into the urban, you must go across Bayi Square. Ever since it was constructed, this square became a main site for most big-scale ceremonies and marches. To ordinary residents, the square is a popular place for outdoor lounging during summer nights until recent years due to the extremely hot and humid climate in Nanchang. A music fountain, which was built in the south of the square, has become a favorite destination for people especially in summer nights.
A large granite tablet stands in the center of the square, which was written with the introduction of the Nanchang Uprising in the frontispiece while the top of it is musket made in Hanyang and flutters a Bayi Oriflamme. The whole tablet looks grand and majestic, making people admire it.
Take a trip to Bayi Square, you can learn a lot of the history of the Bayi Uprising while enjoy the expansion and the lucidity of the square. |
