Du Fu's Thatched Cottage

Du Fu's Thatched Cottage is an idyllic 24-acre park and museum in honour of the most celebrated Tang Dynasty poet, Du Fu.

Du Fu's Thatched Cottage(Chinese:杜甫草堂;pinyin:dùfǔcǎotáng): Du Fu's Thatched Cottage which was originally built by Du Fu, was destroyed. The main buildings in the Park were constructed in the early 16th century during the Ming dynasty and extensively renovated in 1811 during the Qing dynasty. Covered by 20 hectares of leafy bamboo and luxuriant vegetation, the Thatched Cottage has become a commemorative museum in the form of a traditional garden. In 1961, it was listed by the State Council to be a key historical site under state protection. Du Fu Cao Tang consists of several main areas: • Du Gong Bu memorial Hall (Du Gongbu ci), the simple whitewashed halls display collections of Du Fu's poems and an outline of his life, the library area displays published works of Du Fu, including some rare Song dynasty wood-carving editions. • Du Fu's Thatched Cottage. A reconstructed thatched cottage is partitioned into a study room, a bedroom and kitchen, which recreated the living and working environment at Du Fu's time. • The Hall of Great Poets (Da Ya Tang). A new exhibition hall where a 16 meter long by 4 meter tall mural painting portrays the scenes from Du Fu's poems: "My Thatched Cottage Wrecked by the Autumn Wind" and "A Song of War Chariots".
