Mount Qingcheng

Mount Qingcheng is one of the most famous Taoist mountains in China. The mountain, which is surrounded by numerous peaks and is shaped like a city, is dubbed 'the most peaceful and secluded mountain under heaven' and combines perfectly with its evergreen scenery.

Mount Qingcheng (Chinese: 青城山;pinyin: qīngchéngshān): Mount Qingcheng is one of the most famous Taoist mountains in China. With the snow-covered Mingshan Mountain on the back and the Chuanxi Plain in front, the evergreen Mount Qingcheng covers an area of over 120 square kilometers. It has 36 peaks covered with thick forests of trees and bamboo, 72 caves and 108 scenic spots. It gets its name from the way the peaks resembling the structure of the city wall. The name Qingcheng means "Green City". The mountain is well-known for its serene scenery that are dotted with Daoist temples shaded by forests and enhanced by interesting legends and anecdotes. The highest peak is called Lao Xiao Ding, approximately 1600 meters above the sea level. It is one of the birthplaces of Chinese Taoism and a great deal of historical sites can be found there. The Mt. Qingcheng can be divided into two parts - the anterior Mt. Qingcheng and the posterior Mt. Qingcheng. The anterior mountain is famous for its beautiful scenery and numerous cultural and historic sites; while the posterior mountain is noted for its paradisiacal scenery, primitive and brilliant, gorgeous and mysterious. They are linked by stone paths, ideal for rambling.
