River Viewing Pavilion
|
The River Viewing Pavilion Park is not only renowned for its natural beauty, also historical significance. It is decorated with flying eaves, red pillars, green tiles and a gilded steeple ball on the pointed octagonal roof. The extremely splendid tower is the memorial to a famous poetess, named Xuetao in the 9th century. |
| River Viewing Pavilion Park or Wangjiang Lou (Chinese:望江楼;pinyin: wàngjiānglóu): Wangjiang Lou is located in the southeast of Chengdu. The entire park is developed in memory of Xue Tao, who was a Tang Dynasty poetess and wrote many poems in this park.
Wangjiang Lou consists of three pavilions, Chongli Ge, Zhuijin Lou and Yinshi Lou. The structures that we see today were rebuilt in the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911 A.D.) and now those terraces are one of the national preserved culture relics.
Chongli Ge, the most exquisite and magnificent among its architectures, decorated with red walls, green-tiled roof and picture-carved colored beams. Even after many centuries, visitors still can enjoy its grand and magnificent past.
River Viewing Pavilion has a special shape, which makes it quite distinguished from the others: the upper two storys are octagonal shape while the two lower storys are square. When you climb to the top, you can have a clear view of the Jin Jiang River with gentle breeze.
There is a deep well in the garden. It is special because Xue Tao once made her own writing paper by using the water from this well. Since then, people called this well "The Well of Xue Tao" and the paper made from this area was named "the Paper of Xue Tao". Today, visitors can buy the similar paper with her poems in many bookstores in Chengdu City.
The highlight of the park is its forests which boasts 100 different varieties of bamboo. You will be enthralled as you walk beside the yellow columns of bamboo; you can also hear the exquisite sound when the green leaves sway with the wind. If you are tired of walking, you can always take a rest under the wonderful shade created by the green leaves of the bamboo trees. |
