|
Zigong Salt History Museum is the only one of its kind in the whole of China. The museum's mission is to collect, study, preserve and display implements and artifacts relating to salt mining. |
| Zigong Salt Museum (Chinese: 自贡盐业博物馆;pinyin: zìgòngyányè bówùguǎn): Zigong Salt Museum is the only one of its kind in the whole of China. The museum's mission is to collect, study, preserve and display implements and artifacts relating to salt mining. It was built in 1736 as a guildhall for salt merchants from Shaanxi province during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The lavish buiding features elaborate flying eaves, and a gilded, wood-carved interior based around a large galleried atrium, where plays were once performed. Exhibits cover the entire history of salt mining, from Han dynasty illustrations, to huge metal drill-bits and cutaways showing the drilling. |
