People's Congress Hall
|
People's Congress Hall is an exquisite and magnificent architecture complex in a style of orientalism which was built to express the meaning of "the peaceful country and the happiness people". |
People's Congress Hall (Chinese: 人民大会堂; pinyin: Rénmín Dáhuìtáng), imitating the pattern of Beijing Temple of Heaven, is an exquisite and magnificent architecture complex in a style of orientalism.
Located in the Renmin Road of Chongqing, the People's Congress Hall was built to express the meaning of "the peaceful country and the happiness people". The outward appearance of the People’s Congress Hall likes the amplificatory Temple of Heaven with dark green tile roof, great red colonnade, white handrail and carved by pictures and carvings, resplendent and magnificent!
The People's Congress Hall has space for 4500 people. It was built between 1951 and 1954 and is certainly symbolic. Between 1937 and 1946 it was the seat of the National Chinese government under Chiang Kai-Shek who the Communists never recognized as a legal party.
Now, The People's Congress Hall and the adjacent square is the center of the city. The Congress Hall is used as a communication center. Modern electronic equipment is used to provide wide segments of the population with the latest news. It is also very enjoyable to watch people practice their tai-chi exercises. In the evening the square is a favorite place for the "Grandmother-Grandfather Disco". |
