| This nine-story White Horse Pagoda (Chinese: 白马塔;pinyin: báimǎtǎ) was originally built in 386 AD. It was built in memory of a horse belonging to a monk, who came from the Silk Road kingdom of Kuqa. The horse died here in AD 384. It is with a height of 12 meters and a width of 7 meters. Believers repaired the structure in every dynasty, therefore the White Horse Pagoda keeps its original beauty and always take the lead among the tourist attractions in Dunhuang as is regarded as "scenery within the scenery". |
