Yellow Dragon Pool and the Black Dragon Pool are the two famous scenic spots in Lushan Mountain, with different but beautiful scenery. |
Yellow Dragon Pool (Chinese: 黄龙潭; pinyin: Huánglóng Tán) and the Black Dragon Pool (Chinese: 乌龙潭; pinyin: Wūlong Tán) are the two famous scenic spots in Lushan Mountain. According to legend, there was a dragon living in each pool, and they used to fight each other, playing havoc with trees and flowers, until eventually they were subdued by monks.
The two pools are situated amid the serenity of soaring mountain peaks and extraordinary pines forests.
The Yellow Dragon Pool of the Lushan Mountain stands as a silent reminder of the Chinese fascination with the beautiful creature of myth and legend. It is deep and quiet in the Yellow Dragon Pool; one can sit on the side of it and enjoy the birds singing and the leaves floating down.
The Black Dragon pool is divided into five chinks by a huge stone. Hanging from the stone, the five parts of water rush
down to the pool. As the story says, there is a dark dragon inhabiting in the pool, so people name it after the dark dragon. Three different size of the pools consist of the Black Dragon Pool, among the three pools, the middle and the upper pools are both high with dozens of meters. The water is clear in the pool, which make people can not help drinking and playing. At present, the two Chinese characters “Xianglong” (Subdue the dragon) still are engraved on the rock of the Black Dragon Pool. |
