The Grand Mosque(Chinese: 大清真寺, Pinyin: dà qīngzhēnsì) ist the largest mosque in Xi'an and one of the four grand Islamic mosques in China with more than 1200 years' history. The mosque possesses not only traditional Chinese architectural style, but also features peculiar to Islamic mosques and now it is a major spot for religious activities of 60,000 Muslims in Xi'an. The 60,000 people strong Moslem community that lives and works today in Xi’an traces its history to those Middle Eastern merchants who, after travelling the Fur Road, settled down here.
The Great Mosque of Xi'an, located near the Drum Tower (Gu Lou) in the ancient city Xi'an, first built in the Tang Dynasty, and renovated in later periods, is an important cultural relic protected by the province's government.
