Heptachord Terrace
|
Heptachord Terrace was built to commemorate the sincere friendship. |
Heptachord Terrace (Chinese: 古琴台; pinyin: Gǔqíntái) was built to commemorate the sincere friendship between Yu Boya and Zhong Ziqi during the Song Dynasty and later reconstructed by a prefect living in Hubei Province during the early Qing Dynasty. So the Heptachord Terrace was also named as "Boya Terrace".
Heptachord Terrace is located in the north of the Hanyang District of Wuhan City, Hubei Province, with the Tortoise Hill in the west and on the bank of the Moon Lake.
The Chinese term "Zhi Yin", meaning bosom friends, originated from the Heptachord Terrace. During the Spring and Autumn Period, a famous musician named Yu Boya was strained there and met with Zhong Ziqi, who can thoroughly understand his music. They made good friend with each other so the Heptachord Terrace has always been a symbol of friendship.
Surrounded by water on three sides, the Heptachord Terrace is set among some very beautiful scenery. As well as the stone terrace, a hall named "High Mountain and Flowing Water" stands on the site. Other recreational features around the Heptachord Terrace are a courtyard and a teahouse as well as an arboretum and parterre. Here you will see many stone carvings and a stele inscription commemorating the restoration of the Heptachord Terrace.
On the whole, visit to the Heptachord Terrace will help visitors to truly appreciate the friendly nature of Chinese people and have a better understanding of the stress they place upon sincere affection. |
