Being 42 kilometers in length, it is the longest restored section of the Great Wall with a length of 3052 meters, possessing many features including antiquity, grandness, steepness and gracefulness, and it is regarded as an 'Impregnable Pass' in Tianjin. In 1990 it was named one of the top scenic places in a list of the ten most appealing sceneries to visit in Tianjin.
Huangyaguan Great Wall takes its name "yellow cliff" from the yellowish hills and rocks nearby. Part of the cultural heritage of the world, it was initially built in Northern Qi Dynasty and later renovated and lengthened in Sui Dynasty and again during the Ming Dynasty. Now it is also chosen as a patriotic education and national defense education base of Tianjin.
With various forms of water towers presented along the walls, and the largest tower of the Great Wall "PhoenixTower" and the most unique "BaguaguanCastle", Huangyaguan Great Wall is like a library of the Great Wall.
Huangyaguan boasts many features. It is strong and overwhelming for its walls and towers built on mountain ridge with an average altitude of 738 meters; it's jumping its way up and down as a linkage between the cliff and crags on the mountain; it's beautiful and with a long history. |
