Mount Jiuhua (Chinese: 九华山; pinyin: Jiǔhuá Shān) was originally known as Jiuzi Mountain (nine peaks). The name came from the poem lines by Li Bai, the celebrated poet in the Tang Dynasty, who admired the scene of nine peaks that look like lotus blooms from heaven. There are 99 peaks and 18 scenic spots in the mountain.

Mount Jiuhua locates in the southeast of Chizhou City. At the northwest is opposite Tianzhou Mountain separated by Yangtze River and at the southeast is opposite Yellow Mountain separated by Taiping Lake. Now the Mount Jiuhua is the state-level tourism zone and national civilized tourist area. It is known as the international Buddhist temple. Waterfalls, streams, exotic-looking boulders, ancient caves, old pines and exuberant bamboo make Mount Jiuhua exquisite and enchanting scenery. The scenery of Mount Jiuhua change with the season all the time. Noted for its beautiful scenery and pleasant climate, the mountain is an ideal summer resort.
Except from the great variety of the beautiful sights of Mount Jiuhua, it's also famous for the grand scale of temples and nunneries, which are unique in style and magnificent in architecture. Now there are over 50 well-preserved temples and thousands of Buddhist statues.
Heavenly Terrace Peak is the best place to watch the scenery of Jiuhua Mountain and is also the main peak with an elevation of over 1,300 meters. "Sunrise at the Heavenly Terrace" is considered as one of the ten major sights of Jiuhua. |
