| (Chinese: 约特干城遗址;pinyin: hétián): Yotkan once was an important city in the ancient and prosperous Yutian kongdom, a state in the Western Region that from 60 BC was subsumed into the sovereignty of the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-24 AD). Today, the only remaining clue to the whereabouts of this ancient city available is a stone stele that informs the visitor that the site is a cultural relic of the Xinjiang region. The city ruins cover an area of 10 square kilometers. Most of the cultural relics are about 3-6 m underground. Among the excavated cultural relics, jade articles, golden Buddha figures and a large amount of old coins have been mostly unearthed which were used during a long period of time. |
