| (Chinese: 库车清真寺;pinyin: kùchē qīngzhēnsì): Grand Kuqa Mosque was originally built in the 16th century and reconstructed in 1931 after being damaged by fire. It is the second largest mosque in Xinjiang after Id Kah Mosque. The attractive green-tiled mosque bears no traces of Chinese influences in its traditional arabesque design. The Hall of Prayer is supported by 88 round shape pillars with exquisite carvings and beautiful pictures and it can accommodate 3,000 worshipers at the same time. Grand Kuqa Mosque is the only mosque in China to have preserved the Shariya (Islamic Court) system. |
