| (Chinese: 铁门关;pinyin: kùěrlè): Iron Gate Pass was originally erected in the Jin Dynasty (265-420)in the valley of Peacock River. It was of strategic importance in history in ancient China and is listed as one of the 26 famous Passes. Iron Gate Pass was at the bottle-neck of the Silk Road and the traffic junction, as anyone who wants to come into the Tarim Basin must pass through it firstly. A military checkpoint was established at the pass during the Tang Dynasty. Nowadays, the pass is no longer part of the road infrastructure of the region and is preserved as a scenic and historical area. |
