Dragon Pavilion (Chinese:龙亭;pinyin:lóngtíng)at southeast part of Kaifeng is a well-known scenic area and historical place of interest. It was originally the imperial palaces of the Nortern Song Dynasty (960 - 1127 AD), and later also the residence of Prince Zhou of the Ming Dynasty (1368- 1644 AD).
The pavilion stands atop a 13-meter high gigantic brick platform. Leading to the great hall of the pavilion are 72 steps of stone in 3 terraces; between steps inlaid are granite slabs with designs of dragon on them. In the middle of the great hall there is a huge black mound called "Dragon Mound", on which, according to the history, the imperial edict was read, which is splendid and magnificent.. During each major festival high officials, both military and civilian, would come here to pay homage to the emperor. In the 25th year (1846 AD) of the reign of Emperor Daoguang the pavilion was ruined in the wind storm and rebuilt 11 years later.

The back yard of Dragon Pavilion is now a public park. Walking along the park, you will see two lakes, Pan Lake and Yang Lake, a bridge across two lakes. A pair of stone lions stands on each side of the South Gate of the Dragon Pavilion. There is a long path from the pavilion to the street outside the South Gate, which was exclusively for Emperors, now known by the people of Kaifeng as "A Street in Song Dynasty"

Don't miss the wax museum in the Dragon Pavilion, where figures in Song Dynasty are displayed and important events are recorded. The records include such as the fountain of Song Dynasty, political reforms by Wang Anshi (a famous statesman and a well-known writer), the historic records about Lord Bao. (Also know as "Bao Zhen", known for his good deeds and judgement).
