Facing Dian Lake on the east, neighboring Huating Hill and Biji Hill on the north, linking Taiping Hill and Luohan Hill on the south, Taihua Temple(Chinese:太华寺;Pinyin:Tàihuásì) is hiding among a great area of green trees. With “simple, unsophisticated and elegant” architectural style, Taihua Temple is 2 kilometers away from Huating Temple. With an elevation of 2350 meters, Taihua Temple was first built in the Yuan dynasty, which is the oldest temple in Western Hills. Because of wars and other reasons, the temple was destroyed and rebuilt for several times. The present architecture can trace back to 1687.
The main hall in this temple is Hall of the Precious Hero (Daxiong Baodian), where Buddhas of the Three Ages: Sakyamuni, Maitreys and Kasyapa-matanga are enshrined. Behind the main hall stands an altar to the Goddess of Mercy. Reputed as Deliverer of Sons, the Goddess of Mercy is widely enshrined by newlyweds and barren couples who hope to get a male baby.
Furthermore, the temple is surrounded by lots of flowers, such as camellia, magnolia, and sweet-scented osmanthus and so on. With the perfume of incense burning, it seems like fairyland and makes visitors so enchanted as to forget about home.
