Gansu Provincial Museum
|
It is the biggest comprehensive museum in the province. |
| Gansu Provincial Museum (Chinese: 甘肃省博物馆;pinyin: gānsùshěng bówùguǎn) is set in an Soviet-style building built in 1956, and covers a total area of 18,000 square meters (about 4 acres). It boasts 75,000 cultural relics, ranging from natural specimens to historical, revolutionary and national heritages, of which more than 110 pieces are of the first class. It mainly features five exhibition halls, namely, the Hall of Gansu Historical Relics, the Hall of Gansu Natural Resources, the Hall of Jiayuguan Murals of Wei and Jin Period, the Hall of the Yellow River Ancient Elephants, and the Hall of Red Army's Long March via Gansu. The beat known one is the striking 2,000-year-old bronze Flying Horse, with its hoof resting on the back of a swallow, that was discovered in an Eastern Han tomb in Wuwei. A fine collection of Yangshao pottery dating from the late Neolithic period is also worth seeing. |
