Lushan Mountain (Chinese: 庐山; pinyin: Lú Shān) is a well- known scenic area, summer resort and place for patients to recuperate. It is also one of the spiritual centers of Chinese civilization. Lushan Mountain looks danger outside while elegant inside. There are imposing and magnificent peaks, unique waterfalls, and historical sites as well as a ganging sea of clouds and a warm and comfortable climate.
Lushan Mountain is located in the northern part of Jiangxi Province, to the south of the Yangtze River and northwest of the Poyang Lake. According to the records, it has a history of more than 2,000 years. The scenic area houses 474 scenic spots, 16 natural wonders and 171 peaks as well as a large number species of plants and animals. The highest peak of Lushan Mountain is the Dahanyang Peak, with 1,474 meters above the sea level.
The beauty of Lushan Mountain is attributed to its exotic peaks and mysterious caves, cascading waterfalls and the buildings that seem to be suspended in midair and so on. Among these beauties, the best known characteristic of the mountain, perhaps, is the ever-changing mist that wraps up the peaks all the year round. All of these attracted lots of famous literators or poets, such as Li Bai, Du Fu and so on. The typical one is the Bailu Shuyuan (White Deer Cave Academy), the most famous of the four biggest academies in ancient China, and enjoys high prestige in the Chinese history of education.
The main scenic spots on the mountain include the Peak of the Five Old Men, ThreeStep Spring, Hanpo Pass, Great Tianchi Lake, Lushan Botanical Gardens and Lushan Museum, and White Deer Cave Academy and so on.
