Meiling (Chinese: 梅岭; pinyin: Méi Lǐng) Scenic Area is known as the “small Mt. Lushan” with its beautiful scenery. Meiling is located in the western outskirt of Nanchang, 15 kilometers away from the central city.
Meiling was originally called Feihong Mountain and renamed as Meiling to commemorate Mei Fu, a governor of Nanchang County in the end of West Han Dynasty, fought against the autocracy of Wang Mang and receded to Feihong Mountain. To remember his loyalty, people built up Mei Immortal Altar high in the mountain, Mei Immortal Temple at the foot the mountain, so Meiling got its name.
Meiling is one of the holy places for Buddhism and Daoism. It’s called as the 12th Cave to the Taoists. There are as many as 136 temples and altars in the mountain. The Cui Yan Temple in Meiling is one og the eight famous temples in Jiangxi Province. Other scenic spots are worth to see such as the Xiangcheng Temple, the Peace Guan and so on.
