The People’s park（chinese:人民公园, pinyin: rénmín gōngyuán）one of the eight historical scenic spots in Nanning found in 1951, is located in the eastern part of the city. It covers an area of 51.3 hectares. Trees and brushwood1 are growing around the whole park and greenness mainlines all the year round. The White Dragon Lake is located here with green water and beautiful bamboos and weeping willows around, and also is home to thousands of red carp. According to records from the Song Dynasty, General Di Qing stationed his army by the lake during his northern expedition. One day, he saw a flock of white sheep forming the shape of a dragon, and so White Dragon Lake was named. There is one islet in the lake, connected by a nine-bend bridge in the west and a three-arched bridge. The tourists can have great fun with boating and fishing.

There are 141 steps facing the gate of the park. Above these steps is the top of a sloping field, which is called Wangxian Po (Watching Fairy Hill). Going up to it, the highest point in the park, one can enjoy an exceptional view of the whole city. Wangxian Hill also has a legend like that-- in Jin Dynasty, there was a Taoist (priest) named Luoxin who cultivated in Luoxiu Hill. Wangxian Hill is opposite to Luoxin Hill, so it was also called “Adoring Immortal Hill”. Atop the hill is Zhenning Fortress, built during the early years of the Republic of China. A cannon made in Germany in 1890 is a major item of interest there.

The People’s park boasts for its five main scenic spots. They are: Wangxian Po, Zhenning Fortress9, viewing fish at White Dragon Lake, Revolutionary Martyr Monument and grand gardens, featuring a variety of tropical and subtropical plants. So it’s really a nice place for a stroll or leisure.
