Yangmei Ancient Town

Yangmei Ancient Town was first built in Song dynasty as a business center. There are still some Qin style buildings and famous for it "Eight scenic spots."

Yang Mei Ancient Town(chinese:杨美古镇, pinyin:yángméi gǔzhèn) is located in the western outskirt1of Nanning city, 38 kilometers away from the downtown area. It was first built in Song Dynasty, covering an area of about 1.2 square kilometers. It was not instituted as a town until Ming dynasty. At that time, it was only a small village, which was called Baihua village. Gradually, it became a business center, gained the name of “Minimized Nanning”.

Yang Mei Ancient Town boasts for the three main scenic spots. They are the Kuixing (Dipper) Building, the street of Qing Dynasty and the old architecture groups of Ming and Qing Dynasty.

The Kuixing (Dipper) Building is a dark red building, with a height of 15.3m. It located in the northeast part of the town, which was built under the reign of Emperor Qianlong of Qing Dynasty. As a result, it was completely set up in the style of Qing Dynasty- the whole architecture was made of wood and bricks, graced with green tiles and vermilion eaves. This building is not only important for architecture, but also for Guangxi history. In 1907, the Committee Party of Guangxi held a meeting here to discuss the plan of overthrowing Qing dynasty. In this sense, it played a role in China’s revolutionary history.

The Street of Qing dynasty is called “Lingjiang Street” in the past, built in the reign of Emperor Daoguang of Qing Dynasty. The street is in the southeast of its own and stretches south to north, which is about 300m long and 3.8m wide. The whole street was paved by smooth and level slabstone in various shapes.

Along the street is the Architecture complex of Ming and Qing dynasty. All these architectures were built with wood and bricks. However, most of them were set up in Qing dynasty. Compared the two kinds of architecture, we will easily find out their differences. The house made in Ming dynasty usually used seven timbers. But most of the houses made in Qing dynasty used bricks as the main material. In all, the architecture of Qing Dynasty are more ingenious-design.
