The National Centre for the Performing Arts (Chinese: 国家大剧院; Pinyin: Gǒjiā dàjùyùan), formerly known as the National Grand Theatre, and colloquially described as The Egg, is an opera house and Theatre in Beijing. The location, immediately to the west of Tiananmen Square and the Great Hall of the People, and near the Forbidden City.
The exterior of the theater is a titanium accented glass dome that is completely surrounded by a man-made lake. It look like an egg floating on water. Seats 6,500 people in three halls and is 200,000 m² in size. Construction started in December 2001 and its first official concert was held in December 2007.
Both inside and out, China's new National Centre for the Performing Arts is a must-see attraction. The Centre is easily accessible by subway Line One.
