The Presidential Palace
|
Nanjing's Presidential Palace is a beautiful historic site. Nanjing was the capital of China for a long time, around five dynasties if memory serves, and so of course its seat of power is the location of many historic events.
After the Xinhai Revolution in 1911, Sun Yat-sen was sworn in at the Presidential Palace as the provisional President of the Republic of China. It is now a museum, the China Modern History Museum. |
| The Presidential Palace (Chinese: 总统府, pinyin: Zǒngtǒngfǔ) in Nanjing, the Former President's House, is now a museum, the China Modern History Museum. The history of the place dates back to 600 years ago, and the site was the mansion of Prince of Han during the Ming Dynasty. In 1912, Dr. Sun Yat-sen was elected the Provincional President of the Republic, and changed the west garden of the palace into the Presidential Residence. In 1928, the palace became the administration office of the republic government. The Executive Yuan(Council) of the Nationalist Government was located in the East Wing and its main military authorities in the West Wing. |
