Putuozongcheng Temple (Chinese: 普陀宗乘之庙; pinyin: Pǔtuó Zōngchéng Zhī Miào) is the largest temple of Chengde. It is a minifacsimile of Lhasa's Potala Palace and houses the nebulous presence of Avalokiteshvara (Guanyin).
Putuozongcheng Temple can be divided into three parts. The front part comprised of the entrance, tablet pavilion and Wuta Gate. The middle section comprised of colored glaze memorial arch, White Tower, monk rooms and so on.
The rear is the main construction of big red tower and some other periphery constructions. There are altogether 60 locations scattered around. The temple is a marvelous sight on clear day, its red walls standing out against its mountain backdrop. Enter to a huge stele pavilion, followed by a large triple archway topped with five small stupas in red, green, yellow, white and black.
Putuozongcheng Temple is well known as the nonesuch architecture which constructed the temple by infusing the characteristics of the Tibetan national minority in the Han Nationality tradition foundation. |
