|
Qinhuangdao is a beautiful coastal and ancient city. |
Qinhuangdao (Chinese: 秦皇岛; pinyin: Qínhuángdǎo) is a beautiful coastal city known for its freezing-free nice port, historical town of Shanhaiguan and summer resort Beidaihe. It is located in the northeast of Hebei Province with Bohai, the innermost gulf of the Yellow Sea on the south, and is just only only 280km and 220km away from Beijing and Tianjin respectively.
Since the elevation of Tianjin to a provincial-level municipality, Qinghuangdao is the chief port of Hebei province. Qinghuangdao got its name for that the Emperor Qinshihuang arrived there on his fourth eastern inspection and sent Lusheng and Han Zhong out to the sea to look for the immortal for him. Qinghuangdao is the only city which was named after an emperor in China.
Qinghuangdao enjoys the fresh and cool air and the pleasant climate, splendid and beautiful landscape with the Great Wall running through and the seaside scenery and has always been considered as an ideal domestic summer resort. The most famous local sceneries of Qinghuangdao mainly include the Beidaihe, the Great Wall, Shanhaiguan and Haigang District and so on.
Some famous person and activities make Qinhuangdao known more widely. For instance, in 1954, a great man Mao Zedong stood here watching the sea and wrote the immortal poem entitled "Langtousha Beidaihe" and Qinhuangdao's Olympic Sports Centre Stadium was used as an Olympic Competition Venue (Football Preliminary) during the 2008 Summer Olympics.
Besides the famed sceneries of Qinghuangdao, it is also favored by people that it is home of fruits well known in northern China. Widely liked are crabs and prawns, Changli grapes, Shanhaiguan cherries and wild Chinese gooseberries, as well as chestnuts and walnuts. |
