West Qing Tombs

The West Qing Tombs is one of the three groups of imperial tombs in Qing Dynasty. |
The West Qing Tombs (Chinese: 清西陵; pinyin: Qīngxī Líng) is one of the three groups of imperial tombs which lies at the foot of the Yongning Mountain, 15 kilometers west of the Yixian County, Baoding City.
There are four tombs of the emperors, namely, Tombs Tailing for Emperor Yongzheng, Changling for Emperor Jiaqing, Muling for Emperor Daoguang and Chongling for Emperor Guangxu. Besides, 3 tombs of the empresses and 14 tombs of the princesses and princes are also preserved well in the West Qing Tombs.
The West Qing Tombs lies in a stretch of hills, with ranges of mountains and dense woods around. There are more than 20,000 ancient pines which form the largest ancient pine woods in North China. Covering an area of more than 50,000 square meters, possessing of 1,000 palaces and over 100 stone buildings and stone statues, form the West Qing Tombs a splendid large-scaled building complex.
The red gate close to Tailing Tomb is the front gate of the West Qing Tombs. There are three lofty stone memorial archways with the red gate, unique in China. The echo stone and echo wall at Changling Tomb compares favorably with the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. The palace with carved dragons at Muling Tomb is unique among all the Qing Tombs.
The West Qing Tombs, a national grade 4-A scenic spot, was listed as a world cultural heritage site by the UNESCO together with the East Qing Tombs in 2000. |
