Wuzhi Mountain

Wuzhi Mountain is the highest mountain and the symbol of Hainan.

Wuzhi Mountain (Chinese: 五指山; pinyin: Wǔzhǐshān) is the highest mountain of Hainan Province. Due to its height, it was renowned as the symbol of Hainan. It is located at the center of Hainan Island with the peaks waving like saw-tooth and the shape like five fingers. By this reason, it got its name of Wuzhi Mountain.

The mountain has five peaks. The first peak Yizhishan Mountain (First Finger Mountain) is like a huge pyramid and the top of the peak is piercing into the sky obliquely. The Erzhishan Mountain (2nd Finger Mountain) is the highest peak of the Wuzhishan Mountain with elevation of 1,876 meters high. Between the Yizhishan Mountain and Erzhishan Mountain there is a "Sky Bridge" built with a natural huge stone. Since it is surrounded with cloud and mist all the year, it is called the Fairy Bridge with a lot of mythology stories. The gushing cloud and mist is the typical feature of Wuzhi Mountain.

Wuzhi Mountain is high and steep, with a complex land form, and verdant forest. The abundant water resources feed groups of waterfalls, the most impressive being the Wuzhi Mountain Waterfall on the north face of the first peak. This has a height of 1,000m, and is a grand sight. The various water falls have created a series of deep ponds as they cascade down to the great Wuzhi Mountain Canyon. Meanwhile the Wuzhishan Mountain is also the kingdom of precious animals and birds.

Looking at the Wuzhi Mountain from distance, with green forest and loud around, these five green mountains are piercing into the sky like fingers and the scenery is beautiful and changeable.
