Yangtze River Bridge in Wuhan
|
Yangtze River Bridge in Wuhan is the first highway-railway bridge over the Yangtze River. |
Yangtze River Bridge in Wuhan (Chinese: 武汉长江大桥; pinyin: Wǔhàn Chángjiāng Dàqiáo) is the first highway-railway bridge over the Yangtze River, connecting the Tortoise Hill with the Snake Hill of Hanyang and Wuchang.
Built in 1955 and completed in 1957, the bridge is 1670 meters long with two levels, the lower for trains and the upper for automobiles. The construction of this bridge provided direct rail service between north and south China for the first time. The attached buildings and decorations of the bridge are exquisite and concordant, which reflects well of Chinese architectural features. From the bridge, you can see the splendid sight that the rolling water run to the east with ships coming and going.
Yangtze River Bridge in Wuhan is honored by people that "One bridge is built spanning the river, which makes the traffic convenient." It not only unites the three towns of Wuhan into one body, but also greatly promotes the development of industry and agriculture. |
