Yellow Dragon Cave (Chinese: 黄龙洞; pinyin: Huánglóng Dòng) is one of the foremost scenic areas in Zhangjiajie, having been honored as “magical karst cave both in China and in the world”.
Yellow Dragon Cave covers an area of 48 hectares and is 15 kilometers long with a vertical rise of 140 meters. The cave is of good beneficial air circulation, and is cool in summer and warm in winter. The tally of natural wonders of the cave includes: one natural reservoir, 2 underground rivers, 3 pools, 4 waterfalls, 13 grand halls, 96 passageways and hundreds of thousands of stalagmites, columns and stalactites. In view of a multitude of geological features, the Yellow Dragon Cave is so complex and unfathomable and it is difficult to take them all in at one time.
Visiting the Yellow Dragon Cave, one can learn the interesting legend about the cave and enjoy the karst cave and the stalagmites in different shapes. Among all stalactites in the Yellow Dragon Cave, the most miraculous are Ding Hai Shen Zhen and Long Wang Bao Zuo. Ding Hai Shen Zhen stands 19.2 meters high at a diameter of 10 cm.
Nowadays, lots of famous scenic spots have been developed: the Dragon Dance Hall, Sounding River, Immortal Waterfall, Heaven Pillar Street, and the Dragon Palace. The entire tour takes about two hours--2400 meters by land and an additional 800 meters by water.
