Bita Lake

With abundant fish resources, Bita Lake lies in the heart of the nature preserve surrounded by mountains covered with ancient pines, oaks and rhododendron.
Bita Lake(Chinese:碧塔海；Pinyin:Bìtǎhǎi) is located in the east of Shangri-la County, 25km away from it. As the center of the conservation area, Bita Lake is about 3km long and 1km wide with a total area of 840 square kilometers. Be well-known as “the Pearl of Yun-Gui Plateau”, with an elevation of 3538 meters, Bita Lake is the highest lake in Yunnan Province. Because there is no pollution in Bita Lake, fish resources conserve completely. With a history of more than 2.5 millions years, a kind of fish “Bita Multiple-lip Fish” named by Chinese biologist has 3 lips. In Tibetan people’s minds, Bita Lake is the “holy water” because the scenery here naturally represents the scenes in Tibetan Buddhism that are the “Lucky Eight” and the scene of glorification of Buddhist scriptures. Surrounded by large virgin forests, there are lots of animals, such as deer, monkeys, buffalo, and squirrels and so on.
