Napa Lake Nature Reserve is located in Shangri-La County, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, and 8 km away from the county. The area of this nature reserve is 3125 square kilometers with an elevation of 3266 meters. Conservation area is flat and surrounded by mountains. In winter and spring, ridges are deep in snow. More than ten winding rivers are flowing through the grasslands and then into the Napa Lake.
Napa Lake Nature Reserve is an ideal habitat for black-necked cranes, which are one of the first class national protected animals in China. From September to the next year in March, black-necked cranes perch here about half a year.
Napa Lake Nature Reserve is one of the most distinctive attractions in Shangri-La and also is the largest grassland in the county. Due to the wet climate, the best time to visit here in May to August.
