Day by Day Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival in Xiamen (-, -, -)
Upon arrival in Xiamen, your tour guide will meet you at Xiamen Airport and transfer you to your hotel by private car. The rest of the day is yours to relax, or step out into this amazing city for an adventure on your own.
Day 2: Hakka Earthen Dwellings-"Tulou" (B, L, D)
You will have an early tour from Xiamen to Nanjing (about 3 hours) to visit Hakka earthen dwellings-"Tulou", unique Chinese rammed earth buildings of the Hakka in southwestern Fujian Province. They were built for defence purposes around a central open courtyard with few windows to the outside and only one entrance. Tulou buildings were discovered by the American Central Intelligence Agency that took satellite photos in the 1960s. They were mistaken as nuclear reactors, but later, after a closer look, they were found to be simply houses. One dwelling can house a whole clan with several hundred people and is known as "a little kingdom for the family".
After this, you will be driven back to Xiamen in the late afternoon.
Day 3: Gulang Yu Island, Nanputuo Temple, Wanshi Botanical Garden, Xiamen University (B, L, -)
Today you will have a full-day city tour around Xiamen and it starts with visiting the Gulang Yu Island, only ten-minute boat ride from Xiamen. You will first see the Shuzhuan Garden, which once was a Taiwan businessman's private villa. It is divided into two parts-the Garden of Hiding the Sea (Canghaiyuan) and the Garden of Making-Up Hills (Bushanyuan). The garden is in the sea and the sea is in the garden. Then you will walk to Sunlight Rock, the island's highest point that can be reached by cable car.
Next, visit Nanputuo Temple, located on the southeast of Xiamen Island. It is surrounded by the graceful sea and at the foot of the Wulao Peaks. It was founded in the Tang era and its three halls hold a wealth of Buddhist statuary.
Afterwards, you will move to the Wanshi Botanical Garden, which houses a wealth of plants in 29 different garden and over 5,000 species of plants, especially from South China and Southeast Asia.
Finally, you will pay a visit to Xiamen University, founded in 1921, located at the foot of green mountains, facing the blue ocean and surrounded by Xiamen bay. It is famous for its beautiful campus with nice scenery and parks.
Then you will go to Wuyi Shan by air in the evening. Upon arrival in Wuyi Shan, your tour guide will meet you at Wuyi Shan Airport and transfer you to your hotel by private car.
Day 4: Mount Wuyi (B, L, D)
Today you will have a full-day private tour in the beautiful Mount Wuyi (Wu Yi Shan), a sheer, mist-shrouded sandstone mountain. It is one of the most outstanding subtropical forests in the world and has a large number of ancient relict plant species, wild animals, many of which are endemic to China.
You will climb to Tianyou Peak, the traditional spot from where to watch the sunrise and view the city's landscape. Later, you will take a raft through the gorges, which is the best way to enjoy the landscape along Nine Bend Creek (Jiuqu Xi).
Day 5: Caodun Ancicent Village, Dahongpao Tea Plantation (B, -, -)
Today you will enjoy Caodun Ancicent Village, 35 km from Mount Wuyi. It retains a large number of ancient wood architectures and you can enjoy a wide variety of beautiful wood, brick and stone carvings. For centuries every family in the village makes tea and the tea even is exported abroad.
Afterwards, you will visit Dahongpao tea plantation. Dahongpao is the most famous tea and known as the "King of Tea". The tea trees grow up in a canyon of Mount Wuyi, about 600 m above the sea level. Since Song Dynasty, Dahongpao was an annual imperial tribute and the royal tea garden was set up here.
Then your personal guide escorts you to Xiamen Airport for your flight to your next destination.
