Tour Features: Quanzhou is a port which once flourished in ancient time; it is the start of "The Sea Silk Road". Many historical and cultural traditions have been seen here. You will also have a chance to take a look at the largest temple in Fujian Province.
Day by Day Itinerary:
Day 1: Kaiyuan Temple, Moslem Holy Sepulcher, Qingyuan Mountain, Qingjing Mosque (B, L, D)
Today you will have a full-day tour to Quanzhou and it starts with visiting the Kaiyuan Temple, built in 686 AD. It is the largest temple in Fujian Province and has strong influence upon Taiwan and overseas Buddhists. There are three halls in the temple, and on each side of the halls there are two ancient pagodas with carvings.
Then, visit Moslem Holy Sepulcher, with a history more than 1,000 years. In the middle of the cemetery there is a pavilion, built for two rectangular granite tombs in honor of the two Islamic Sages in Quanzhou.
Afterwards, you will move to Qingyuan Mountain, located on the northern suburbs of Quanzhou. It is known for its exotic rocks and ingenious springs. At the foot of the mountain, you can see a sitting statue of Lao Zi, the founder of Taoism, carved out of a natural rock duirng the Song Dynasty. The 5.1 meter-high statue, vivid and exquisitely carved, is the largest Taoist stone sculpture in China.
Finally you will go to the Qingjing Mosque, which was initially built in 1009 and today is the oldest Arab-style mosque in China. the surviving gate is supposedly modeled on a mosque in Damascus, Syria and this Mosque is a symbol of cultural exchange and good relationship between China and Arabic countries.
