The museum covers an area of 16,300 sq m and is divided into three sections. Life size terracotta figures of warriors and horses arranged in battle formations are the focus at the museum. They are replicas of what the imperial guard should look like in those days of pomp and vigor. Each figure has its own facial features and expressions, clothing, hairstyle, and gesture.
Then, proceed to Banpo Remains which is located between the Chanhe and the Bahe rivers, in the eastern outskirt of Xi'an City. The Banpo Village Remains is a typical Neolithic matriarchal community of the Yangshao Culture dating back about 6,000 years, and the earliest beginnings of the Chinese civilization traced back to then. It located mainly in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River Valley and is characterized by finly painted pottery.
Next, go to the Bell Tower which lies in the center of Xi'an City. The Bell Tower was build in 1384. But in 1582, when the city went through an expansion, people then pulled down the original bell tower and rebuilt a bell tower in the center of expanded city. The big iron Jinglong Bell on the Bell Tower was made in Ming Dynasty and it weighs 2,500 kg. It has given time to the city for more than 400 years. Nowadays, the clear and loud time-given sound on the tower in Xi'an is the recording sound of that bell. Then, drive back to your hotel.
Day 3: Famen Temple, Forest of Stone Steles Museum (-, L, -)
Your tour guide will pick you up after your breakfast. Firstly, you will have an excursion to Famen Temple which is a Buddhism Temple located around 120 km west of Xian City. The temple is renowned for storing the veritable Finger Bone of the Sakyamuni Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. It was built in the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220) for carrying forward Buddhism. The most representative structures in the temple are the Famen Temple Pagoda and Famen Temple Museum. In 1987, the government decided to rebuild the pagoda and in the course of cleaning up the pagoda's base, an Underground Palace of the Tang Dynasty, which had been closed for one thousand years, was excavated. This is the largest underground palace in pagodas found in China.
Then, proceed to the Forest of Stone Steles Museum which is situated on Sanxue Street, downtown of Xi'an near the south gate of Xi'an City Wall. It once was the site of the Temple of Confucius during the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127) and was first built in 1087 A.D. when some precious stone steles were moved here for safe keeping.
