Day by Day Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival in Xi'an (-, L, -)
Upon arrival in Xi'an, our tour guide will meet you at Xi'an Airport or Xi'an Train Station and transfer you to your hotel by private car. After a short break, visit Xi'an City Wall which is considered a landmark dividing the city into the inner part and the outer part. It was built in the Ming Dynasty over 700 years ago and is the most complete ancient city wall in China.
Then, move to the Bell Tower which lies in the center of Xi'an City. The Bell Tower was build in 1384. But in 1582, when the city went through an expansion, people then pulled down the original bell tower and rebuilt a bell tower in the center of expanded city. The big iron Jinglong Bell on the Bell Tower was made in Ming Dynasty and it weighs 2,500 kg. It has given time to the city for more than 400 years. Nowadays, the clear and loud time-given sound on the tower in Xi'an is the recording sound of that bell. Then, back to your hotel.
Day 2: Terracotta Warrior, Banpo Remains (-, L, -)
Your tour guide will pick you up from your hotel after your breakfast. Then drive to the Terracotta Warrior which is 35 km from Xi'an City and is a place that should not to be missed by any visitor to China. The museum covers an area of 16,300 sq m and is divided into three sections. Life size terracotta figures of warriors and horses arranged in battle formations are the focus at the museum. They are replicas of what the imperial guard should look like in those days of pomp and vigor. Each figure has its own facial features and expressions, clothing, hairstyle, and gesture.
Then, proceed to Banpo Remains which is located between the Chanhe and the Bahe rivers, in the eastern outskirt of Xi'an City. The Banpo Village Remains is a typical Neolithic matriarchal community of the Yangshao Culture dating back about 6,000 years, and the earliest beginnings of the Chinese civilization traced back to then. It located mainly in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River Valley and is characterized by finly painted pottery.
Day 3: Loess Plateau, Phoenix Hill (-, L, -)
Your tour guide will pick you up from your hotel after your breakfast. Today you will have a full day excursion tour to Yan'an City which is located at the Loess Plateau in northern Shaanxi Province, about 350 km north of Xi'an. Yan'an was the destination of the Long March, as well as a main revolutionary base for the Communist Party of China.
Then go to Phoenix Hill (Fenghuangshan), Yangjialing Village which is about 3 km northwest of Yan'an. It once was the CPC Central Committee led the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. The cave dwelling which is the appeal of this part in China. They are usually dug into the hillside, then a brick facade, door and windows are added. Such a dwelling is easy and cheap to construct, and it is solid. The natural insulation of the earth makes it warm in winter and cool in summer. According to statistics, the upper reaches of the Yellow River in 600 thousand sq km of land have so far about 40 million people still living in the cave dwelling. When finish the full day's tour, drive back to Xi'an.
Day 4: Hukou Waterfall (-, L, -)
Your tour guide will pick you up from your hotel after your breakfast. Today, you will have a full day excursion to Hukou Waterfall,the second largest waterfall in China which is the only Yellow Waterfall on earth. The fall is 178 km southeast of Yan'an. When the Yellow River flows through mountains and gorges to Hukou, blocked by mountains on both sides, its width is abruptly narrowed down to 20-30 m (33 yards). The water speeds up with increasing waterpower.
Then it rushes down from the narrow mouth, forming a grand waterfall of 15 m high and 20 m wide, as if water is pouring down from a huge teapot. Hence it gets the name Hukou (mouth of teapot) Waterfall. The thundering sound can be heard from quite a distance. No matter its rumbling sound, its grand vigor or its marvelous scenery can make you exclaim that the nature is really incredible. Then drive back to Xi'an City.
Day 5: Xi'an Incity Tour (-, L, -)
Today we will have a nice city tour. After your breakfast, your tour guide will pick you up and then visit the Forest of Stone Steles Museum, which is situated on Sanxue Street, downtown of Xi'an near the south gate of Xi'an City Wall. It once was the site of the Temple of Confucius during the Northern Song Dynasty and was first built in 1087 A.D. when some precious stone steles were moved here for safe keeping. With nearly 10,000 stelae in the collection, the museum is like an encyclopedia of ancient China.
Then, go to Shaanxi Historical Museum--the largest comprehensive museum in the province. The museum exhibits over 3,000 unearthed historical relics, a small fraction of their collection, most of the exhibited items are rare treasures, showing you the splendid Chinese culture. The last place you will see is the Big Wild Goose Pagoda which is 4 km from the downtown of Xi'an City and was initially built in 652 during the Tang Dynasty. It is 64.5 m (211.6 ft) high and is widely renowned for Master Xuanzang (Monk Tripitaka) stored his classics brought from India. It is the landmark of the ancient capital city - Xi'an. After all these, drive back to your hotel.
Day 6: Gao Family, Shadowgraph playing, Peasant Painting (-, L, -)
Today, you will visit a traditional Chinese dwelling in the Muslim quarter that belonged to the founder of the successful Gao family, who produced many officials, officers and businessmen. The repairs won the 2002 UNESCO Asia-Pacific prize for cultural heritage protection. The courtyard buildings have exhibitions of period furniture, paintings, pottery, porcelain, photos and demonstrations of folk art, including a ‘Shadowgraph’ playing with traditional music. As the name suggests, shadow is the use of leather for the material, for robustness and transparency considerations.
Then go to enjoy Peasant Painting in Huxian County located 40 km southwest of Xi'an City. Huxian County is renowned as one of the most famous counties of Peasant Painting in China. Peasant Painting in Huxian County first appeared during the 1950s and after more than fifty years, and there are over 2,000 painters resident in the county now.
After all of these, your guide will escorts you to Xi'an Airport for your flight to next destination.
